Expository Paragraphs

Expository Paragraphs I am going to start using this website to learn. I’m starting to write essays for school and journals. If you can't think of any objections, then ask other people for help. Have them read your paper, or just tell them your ideas and ask them what sorts of arguments they think people might have against what you are saying. If you don't have anyone nearby that you can ask, send your paper to your parents, or a friend that you know would help you out. At Time4Writing, a certified teacher acts as an online writing tutor to help students build writing skills by focusing on the fundamentals. And nothing in the writing process is more fundamental than writing a solid paragraph. The following example illustrates the importance of these elements in paragraph writing. You can use transition words that show order ; spatial relationships or logic . Also, in writing a paragraph, using a consistent verb tense and point of view are important ingredients for coherency. The topic sentence connects the writing prompt with a summary of the main idea. The unifying idea in this paragraph is that the writer likes Sunday because it gives him/her a chance to be with his/her dad. The topic sentence restates the prompt but does not unify the paragraph. This example shows how one student approached the writing prompt “What is your favorite day of the week and why? ” The original draft has some interesting ideas but overall, the paragraph wanders. It includes both relevant and irrelevant details and lacks the coherent focus required for a successful paragraph. One way to do this is to close your eyes and imagine the story from beginning to end. Then start writing down phrases of what you see. Make it more vivid by adding as many details as you can. Most commonly they come at the end of the paragraph but they can be equally effective at the beginning of the next one. Sometimes a link is split between the end of one paragraph and the beginning of the next . Time4Writing provides online writing classes for elementary, middle school, and high school students and pairs each student with a certified teacher for one-on-one writing instruction. Sentences within a paragraph need to connect to each other and work together as a whole. One of the best ways to achieve coherency is to use transition words. These words create bridges from one sentence to the next. You might also consider asking a friend in your class to read and respond. You need to write a description that uses sense imagery and uses vivid adjectives and adverbs. Worse, all three of these answers reveal a lack of understanding of the marketplace in which writers are trying to sell storiesâ€"the same marketplace where we agents are selling stories. Links are optional but it will help your argument flow if you include them. They are sentences that help the reader understand how the parts of your argument are connected. The truth is there is no definitive answer to this question. For example, if the assignment says the writing should be in 10-point font, it’s going to take a greater number of words to fill a page than if the assignment requires a 12-point font. There are instances when you’re given an assignment, not by word count, but assigned by the number of pages. ” If you need to figure out words per page, you can use a words per page calculator.
